The Vigil of Gratitude: Remembering God’s Goodness and the Cost of Blessing

Gratitude is the intentional posture of remembering God’s goodness and responding with thanksgiving. It turns our attention away from entitlement and complaint, teaching us to recognize His provision, mercy, and faithfulness in every season. As we approach Memorial Day, gratitude also becomes an act of remembrance. We thank God not only for His blessings over our lives and nation, but also for those whose sacrifice has helped preserve blessings we often take for granted. This vigil calls us to remember, give thanks, and walk in humility before Him.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!” — Psalm 107:1

Praying with Thanksgiving and Remembrance

  • Thank God for His faithfulness, provision, and mercy over your life, family, and nation
  • Ask the Lord to cultivate a spirit of gratitude across the nation in place of complaint, pride, or forgetfulness
  • Remember with thankfulness those whose service and sacrifice have helped preserve peace and liberty
  • Pray for comfort and strength for military families, veterans, and those carrying grief or loss
  • Ask God to make us a people who recognize His blessings and respond with humility and obedience

Bring Others With You

Invite someone to join you in giving thanks today. Share one specific blessing, one answered prayer, and one reason to remember with gratitude this Memorial Day weekend.

The journey continues. Thank you for pressing on with others as we lift our leaders and nation in prayer, one voice, joined together.
